I recently read Fred Nashed's Ancient Egyptian In Texas, and found it a very good read. I especially liked how he covered some of the early history of modern day Egypt and his descriptions of his growing up as a Christian in a Muslin country.
His tales of some of the misadventures he had as a immigrant living in Texas were both heart warming and humorous.
I gave my copy of the book to my immigrant daughter-in-law and she said she delighted in reading the book and remembering some of her experiences trying to fit into her new surroundings, very similar to what Fred experienced.
Autobiographies are usually not my reading choice, find them to be as a rule very self serving, but this book is an exception.
I highly reccommend it.

This is the story of an architect employed by the Egyptian government. He worked for 15 years under conditions akin to slavery. He was assigned to undesirable remote locations working from sunup till sundown trying to fulfill unreasonable work loads and deadlines. When promotion and salary raise time came, he was bypassed. Finally, he was allowed to leave the country after the unfavorable outcome of the six-day war with Israel when the ban on immigration was lifted and arrived in the US in 1968 with only $200 in his pocket, the maximum allowed by the Egyptian government at that time. The book includes many interesting anecdotes about air raids on Cairo during WWII and describes his interactions with his eight siblings, funny incidents during his years in college and the euphoria he experienced after arriving stateside. It is a testament to God's benevolence and the fortitude of the human spirit in the face of daunting odds.
