For students familiar with Egyptian history, this book opens up the Mediterranean world, and deals with the interrelationships with other "states" or "empires". Many of the names, such as: Elam, Hatti, Ugarit, Hurrians, and Hittites, will be unfamiliar to a casual reader, but the author builds an interesting story of trade, shared literature, and cultures interacting in ways other than warfare.
