That this book is a collection rather than written by a single author makes it more valuable as it provides a variety of interpritation in an area that is undergoing large scale renovations. Scholarly and a bit dry this book has nothing to do with the usual new age kook authors that make serious research into mystical studies a pain and then some.

(More customer reviews)I first read Initiation 25 years ago, in all that time, I have never found a book that more clearly explains the history and purpose of human lives. Haich provides detailed information about the underlying spiritual reasons for details of human history and writes a fascinating account of what we are experiencing now, why and what is ahead. In 25 years, I have never found anything to contradict what she wrote so many years ago.
I re-read this book almost every other year, wrote a play from it and consider it the touchstone of my life.

(More customer reviews)This is a good book. There are many beautiful pictures, and the book itself is very easy to understand. There are a few spells and chants, but not so much on rituals. It tells a great story of Isis and her life. Easy to follow. It looks like a thin book, but it has a lot of information in it. I especially love the horoscope section where they mention auspicious days of the year. This book is a fun read and the author writes in a language that makes it very easy to understand. This was my first book on Isis, and it is good for learning about her life. For learning about her rituals and what not, Isis Magic by M. Isidora Forrest is the best choice.

as a naturopathic physician and health educator and as someone who has been to Karnak and taught History of Medicine for 20+ years, I can only humbly express gratitude for Sekhmet and Her message, and now for these writers who share their experiences, insights and inspirations.
Only qualm thus far is the lack of author names in the Table of Contents.

Becoming Osiris: The Ancient Egyptian Death Experience Review

(More customer reviews)The fact that one of the reviewers probably refers to a different book and by mistake assigned his/her review to this book does a great disservice to this remarkable work.
Only a superficial reader would assume that this book is a commentary of the "Book of the Dead". It is not. It is much more, and it is exactly what its title suggests : a review of the rituals used by the Egyptians to transform a dead person into an Osiris. The book therefore gives exactly what is lacking in many other books : a broad overview or the three main rituals of death used by the Egyptians : 1) Embalming, 2) Opening of the Mouth, 3) Methods of obtaining Immortality.
1) The book starts with the embalming of the corpse, the purpose of which is to transform the dead body into a statue. Although no complete text of the Ritual of Embalming is available, a detailed account is given of the complicated process at hand and of the reasons for it.
2) The book then describes the "Opening of the Mouth" ritual in much detail, and shows that it refers to the "Book of Statues" used to transform the mummy into a living statue.
3) As a last stage, the "Methods of obtaining Immortality" are described, with many references to the "Book of the Dead". The main chapters of this last section read : Return to the Universal Matrix, Teaching for Coming forth by Day, Magical Self-defense, Solarization of the Deceased, Magical Integration, The Vindicated explores the Cycle of the Beyond, Geography of the Beyond, Mystical Labyrinth and the Glorious Arrival.
There are numerous versions of the BoD. Most of them do cover the text in much detail, but unless one is proficient in the egyptian language and is knowledgable in egyptian myths, the true significance of the text remains extremely obscure. Not so in this book.
The text is very clear, factual, concise and to the point. Very Professional. The drawings are detailed and add much to the understanding. One can regret though that they are not available in color.

Pathworking with the Egyptian Gods Review

(More customer reviews)DNF. What really turned me off was that at the very beginning, it chastised other pathworking books for being nothing more than glorified short stories. When I started reading, most of what I found was . . . short stories. Maybe they would mean a lot more if I was actually experienced with pathworking but the way they were told, I couldn't help but feeling this is exactly what I would experience if I did it, as if my own experience wouldn't differ at all.
If you don't know what pathworking is, it's basically a form of meditation used to heighten to your own awareness of yourself. It's a means for seeking meaning in your life. It takes meditation a few steps further and actually puts you into a transitive state where it's intoned that you will witness what it is you're seeking to witness.
I'm not casting doubt on any of this. I got the book because I thought it was interesting. But it's not for beginners in the slightest. The introduction is short and then it jumps right into the pathworking. I wasn't comfortable with it so that was something I didn't like. And the other issue I had with it was its own insistence that it wasn't just a collection of short stories but something more when all I saw was a collection of short stories.
Like I said, if I was more familiar with pathworking I probably would have a greater appreciation for it but since I'm about as noob as they come, I was kind of turned off by what this book offered. I would have liked to know from the back blurb that it wasn't for beginners. If I would have known, I wouldn't have taken the time initially.
