Twilight of the Gods: The Mayan Calendar and the Return of the Extraterrestrials Review

In the past,I have read about ancient civilizations who made contact with alien forms but so far this book goes above and beyond. The author actually includes his own pictures of the sites he visited so the book has a lot of credibility for those who still are not convinced of these facts. There are too many coincidences of facts that make it impossible not to grasp the idea of aliens visiting the earth thousands of years ago. I'm looking forward to new material from Erich von Daniken. Great work.

High up in the Bolivian Andes-4,000 meters above sea level-lies Puma punku, an ancient ruined city that simply could never have been constructed by its Stone Age inhabitants."Something here really stinks to high heaven," writes Erich von Daniken."In Twilight of the Gods," says von Daniken, "I document precisely what it was that left the first visitors breathless as they stood before the mighty stone blocks some 400 years ago. I will show you what archeologists discovered hundreds of years ago and demonstrate how much has been destroyed over the centuries. Intentionally."I will also prove that Puma punku was not built by any Stone Age people."And in December 2012, the gods will return from their long journey and appear again here on Earth. At least that is what the Mayan calendar would have us believe."The so-called gods--the extraterrestrials--will come again. We're headed for a 'god shock' of major proportions."But doesn't anyone with half a brain know that interstellar travel is simply impossible because of the sheer distances involved? And that extraterrestrials would never look like us?"Well, dear readers, I destroy these preconceptions. Systematically. One bit at a time."In his own inimitable way, Erich von Daniken picks these preconceptions and prejudices apart with a clarity no other author could manage.

Technology of the Gods: The Incredible Sciences of the Ancients Review

Technology of the Gods: The Incredible Sciences of the Ancients

I bought this book with great anticipation...was on the waiting list for months! When it finally became available I couldn't wait to read it. I flipped through it in even more anticipation at the fantastic pictures and illustrations once I got it.
I have to say I was thrilled and dissappointed all at once. The content of the book was absolutely fascinating. The author stirred up subjects that totally engulfed me; but as I'd read into each, I found him wandering off into some other rather uninteresting part of the subject and leaving me dieing to get back to the origional thought...which he often didn't. I got the feeling that he hurried the book and that it never really got edited... Thoughts ran off the page and never got finished; as if pages were missing from the printing.
I'd like to see this entire book re-thought and rewritten, because the CONTENT of the book is astounding to say the least. I'd recommend it to anyone who's digging into ancient history/origins because it has so much interesting material. But I would certainly warn them that it's not a well written or easy to follow book. I actually found myself getting bored with the author's wandering thoughts, especially when he teased with a fascinating subject, then wandered off to la la land.

Childress opens the door to the amazing world of ancient technology, from the computers of the ancient world to the 'flying machines of the gods'. The book explores the technology that was allegedly used in Atlantis and the theory that the great pyramid of Egypt was originally a gigantic power station. From beginning to end, the book is filled with facts, keen observations and tales that challenge modern assumptions in a humorous, intelligent and compelling way.

The Egyptian Cinderella Review

The Egyptian Cinderella

This retelling of Cinderella is rather different from the classic version, but still retains much of the same plot. Rhodopis, a Greek slave, is picked on by the Egyptian servants in her master's household. She befriends the animals, and dances for them often. One time, her master saw her dancing and was so impressed that he gave her a pair of slippers gilded in rose-red gold.
When the servant girls go to visit the pharaoh, Rhodopis is left behind to do the washing. A falcon steals one of her slippers, and brings it to the pharaoh, who decides to search for and marry the girl whose foot fits the slipper.
The suddenness of the pharaoh deciding to search for and marry Rhodopis annoys me, but other than that the story is told very well, and the words flow nicely. The illustrations in this book are very beautiful, but slightly different from those I am used to. The manner in which animals and plants appear on every page, especially when Rhodopis is around, is a nice touch.
This book is a good variant on a popular story, and the pictures make it very memorable. A very good book.

The Ancient Egyptian Coffin Texts (v. 1-3) Review

The Ancient Egyptian Coffin Texts (v. 1-3)

There are not words to praise late Dr. Faulkner for the impressive task he had undetook at translating the 7 volumes of the "editio princeps" of the valuable Ancient Egyptian Coffin Texts, like he had already done with the Pyramid Texts in 1969. Anybody interested in ancient Egyptian religion and funerary literature must own a copy of this edition, whether under this "omnibus edition, 3 vols. in 1", or the extended edition in 3 vols. MOreover, a new reprint of the same is badly in need for it is very difficulto to find it at hand. So that you known: if you have the chance, and you are looking for an authoritative, researched and scholarly translation: THIS IS THE TITLE YOU MUST OWN1

This authoritative English translation of the Middle Kingdom Coffin Texts is an essential resource for all Egyptologists. The new edition reprints Faulkner's whole work in one volume. Filling the gap between the Pyramid Texts and the New Kingdom Book of the Dead, these writings were intended to supply the deceased with the speeches he would need to achieve a secure and important position in the next world. As such they supply valuable insights into Egyptian beliefs and mortuary practices. Concise textual notes are kept to a minimum, allowing the character of the texts to be experienced as a whole. Indexes cover divinities, localities, celestial bodies, selected Egyptian words in translation and also the parts of boats and sailing gear that figure prominently in some spells.
