(More customer reviews)if you've ever thought/intuited, "it's all connected...why are we fussing and fighting over our expressions of god/divinity??", then this book is for you.
i have never seen kemetic teachings broken down in such a comprehensive, effective way--not to mention rightfully connected to its west african "children" such as orisa (ifa) and vodun--in one place.
newcomers to spirituality/metaphysics will appreciate the practical, plain-language approach and tie-ins to other systems they may be studying. more experienced readers will find the information of 10 volumes complied into one, without the bother of cumbersome translations and unecessarily esoteric language.
also refreshing is the author's clear intent to enlighten, uplift, and educate, not confuse the reader into slavish devotion to his (or any other) "doctrine". at the same time, he emphasizes the need for reputable spiritual education and leadership in the life of the devotee--a delicate balance.
one note: if you have not had direct experience with a traditional african spiritual system, it may be difficult to understand some of the author's experiences.
can't wait for the next volume. thank you for this gift.

(More customer reviews)i'm surprised at the glowing reviews this book has gotten. it is a collection of 20 essays written by many famous authors and authorities of alternative history and spirituality. the problem is many of the articles are very short (3 pages or so) and feel very incompete. as one is reading the essays, all of a sudden they are over with not much tying the article up. some essays are very vague (marshall masters talks about dark workers, but doesn't define who they are other than "foes"), some do not mention anything about 2012 (philip gardiner does a page and a half piece of fiction). i enjoyed colin wilson's article the best because of his writing style and ability to say a lot in a little space. buy it used if you must.

Much of what he says sounds obvious and easy to understand -- until you put the book down and try to understand the authors he's written about. Then you will find that he has brought a wonderful clarity to the essential truths of ancient philosophy, delivering the heart of wisdom without the encumbrances of academic verbiage. An excellent starting-point for young people interested in the great visionaries of the past, and an enlivening refresher for those bogged down in the tedium of classical philosophic texts.
